Morning Crane Pacific North West Affiliate’s Profound Journey with Reiki
In a world where healing often seems elusive and authentic connection feels increasingly rare, stories of true transformation offer hope and inspiration. Sherry Davis, owner of Morning Crane Pacific Northwest, Qigong Teacher Trainer, and Reiki practitioner shares such a story—an experience of transmuting tragedy into triumph.
An Unexpected Beginning
Like many who find their way to Reiki (and Qigong), Sherry’s journey began in 2012 not through careful planning, but through serendipity. A simple raffle win for a free Reiki session would become the catalyst for a complete life transformation.
What followed that initial session, however, was far from the peaceful experience she might have expected.
Within 24 hours of her first Reiki treatment, Sherry became violently ill—sicker than she had ever been in her life.
What she didn’t understand at the time was that she was experiencing a profound healing crisis, where years of accumulated trauma, abuse, and stagnant energy were finally breaking free from her body.
This intense response, while frightening, was actually the beginning of her journey back to wholeness.
The Teacher Appears
Six weeks later, Sherry found a different practitioner who would become not just her healer, but her teacher and guide into the world of Reiki.
This practitioner helped her understand what she was experiencing and revealed something remarkable: during their sessions together, she could see Sherry’s chakras transforming into vibrant lotus flowers, spinning with beautiful colors.
This vision confirmed what they both sensed—it was time for Sherry to learn Reiki herself.
Building Confidence Through Practice
Sherry’s early practice began with self-healing, gradually building a sense of calm and confidence.
Her daughter and the animals in their home became her first willing recipients, teaching her lessons that no textbook could provide.
When her three-year-old daughter needed neurosurgery and faced a challenging recovery, she would instinctively ask mom for Reiki whenever she felt unwell—a powerful testament to the energy’s effectiveness and the trust it can inspire.
At the same time, Sherry was drawn to the ancient art of Qigong. She became a dedicated student in 2015, sensing how the practice of breath, movement, and energy awareness could strengthen the same life force she felt flowing in Reiki.
By 2018, she was recognized as a certified practitioner with our Qigong Teacher Training program, and by 2019, she was teaching Qigong herself—sharing its wisdom alongside Reiki in both private sessions and group classes.
When Crisis Becomes Calling
The true depth of Reiki’s power revealed itself when Sherry faced multiple family health crises.
Her mother-in-law’s cancer diagnosis shifted her practice from personal healing to service, as she began offering regular hospital sessions focused on comfort and presence. But perhaps even more profound was her father’s cancer diagnosis—900 miles away.
Initially feeling helpless due to the distance, Sherry remembered a fundamental truth about Reiki: it transcends time and space.
She began practicing distance healing, uncertain what to expect but willing to trust. Her father’s reports of reduced pain and waves of peace in the middle of the night confirmed what she was learning—Reiki’s limitless nature knows no boundaries.
Evolution Through Integration
Over the years, Sherry’s practice has evolved organically, with one of the most significant developments being her integration of sound healing with Reiki.
What began as intuitive moments—playing a bowl or drum during sessions—has become a sophisticated blended approach that addresses healing from multiple dimensions.
Today, she uses crystal bowls, tuning forks, shamanic drumming, and Qigong healing sounds to amplify Reiki energy, helping clients achieve deeper states of receptivity.
Her training in Qigong continues to shape this work. The same sensitivity to subtle energy cultivated in her daily practice allows her to guide clients more precisely—helping them feel grounded in their bodies while opening to more profound spiritual healing.
Sherry often weaves gentle Qigong movements or healing sounds into Reiki and sound baths, creating a multi-layered experience where energy flows with greater ease.
This fusion has proven particularly effective for those who feel “stuck” in traditional talk therapy or other wellness modalities, offering them a new language rooted in vibration and felt sense rather than intellect alone.
The Living Practice
Perhaps most importantly, Sherry has learned that Reiki is a living energy that meets each person exactly where they are.
Her role, she explains, is simply to “listen, allow, and trust.”
This understanding has kept self-practice at the heart of everything she does, recognizing that each time she offers Reiki to others, it calls her back to treat herself with the same compassion and presence.
Qigong mirrors this truth for her. Its daily discipline of breath and movement keeps her connected to the cycles of nature and her own inner rhythms, ensuring she shows up as a clear and balanced channel for healing.
A Pathway Forward
Sherry’s story demonstrates that healing is rarely linear and often begins in unexpected ways.
Her journey from that first healing crisis to becoming a guide for others illustrates Reiki’s profound capacity to transform not just individual lives, but entire life paths.
As she puts it, “Reiki provides us with a vital pathway to wholeness, resilience, and connection as we navigate uncertain times.”
For those feeling called to explore Qigong or Reiki, or deepen their existing practice, Sherry’s journey offers both inspiration and practical wisdom: trust the process, remain open to unexpected developments, and remember that sometimes the whisper of curiosity is the beginning of a profound journey back to life itself.
