What is the Difference Between Tai Chi and Qigong?

Dear Reader,

It’s officially July and Summer is in full swing here in Hollywood! ☀️☀️☀️

To start off this magical month, I wanted to address a frequently asked question I’ve been hearing a lot recently.

Question 1: “What is the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong?” ☯️☯️☯️

…which is usually followed by this next question…

Question 2: “Which one should I practice?” ????????????

Well, you’re in luck because this week I’ve created a short video to explain the main differences and similarities between these two time-tested practices. ????????????

Both Tai Chi and Qigong are unique, full of history, and packed with wisdom.

They both teach us how to truly listen and tune-in to our bodies, which is what we’re all about here at Shelton Qigong! ????

As a quick tip, which is further explained in this week’s video: if you have health concerns that you want to address right away – go with Qigong, since each simple movement is a guided meditative practice that removes blockages, balances the various systems in the body and harmonizes the internal organs.

Since Qigong is the foundation of Tai Chi, Tai Chi leads us into a deeper, more technical, practice. In Tai Chi, we practice a sequence of movements, called a Form, in order to promote focus, balance, and flexibility. Tai Chi teaches us how to listen to our body. It’s also a wonderful mindfulness practice because when doing the Form it’s difficult to think of other things.

☯️Qigong means ‘energy skill’ or practice. There are three applications to Qigong:
medical, martial, and spiritual. ☯️

☯️Tai Chi means ‘supreme ultimate’ and is a physical practice which brings about both physical and mental-emotional strength. ☯️

Whether you choose to pick up Tai Chi or Qigong, you will discover that both practices include the Three Regulations – posture, breath, and mind-intent – which I dive deeper into in this week’s video…

Dial in on these Three Regulations and you will experience profound results in your body and throughout your life. ???? ☮️

Both practices are terrific. The key is to commit to yourself and maintain a regular practice. ???? ???? ????

Try it out and see for yourself. And while you’re at it, let us know how it goes in the comment section of the post.

Until next time. We will Qi you later. ????
❤️❤️❤️
