“Health is Wealth” – Ancient Wisdom for Daily Wellness
In the tradition of Shelton Qigong healing practices and Morning Crane Healing Arts Center, we often emphasize a fundamental truth that resonates deeply with traditional wisdom across cultures: health truly is our greatest wealth.
This principle is highlighted in Macka B’s song Health is Wealth, aligns perfectly with the holistic approach we teach in our qigong practice. (I recently discovered this song, and absolutely LOVE it!)
At Morning Crane, we’ve long advocated that taking responsibility for your own health is of utmost importance.
This encompasses not just physical movement through qigong exercises, but also mindful eating, conscious breathing, and spiritual awareness. The ancient sages understood that true health requires personal investment and commitment – you cannot outsource your wellbeing to others.
Our approach to wellness incorporates several key principles that echo throughout traditional healing systems:
- Personal Responsibility: Just as our qigong practice emphasizes self-cultivation, we must recognize that we are the primary stewards of our own health. While healthcare professionals play important roles, the daily choices you make about exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle form the foundation of your own wellbeing.
- Natural Healing: Nature provides abundant resources for maintaining health. In qigong, we work with the five elements, and understand that our bodies are designed to thrive in harmony with nature. This includes embracing whole, plant-based foods rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that support our body’s natural ability to heal itself.
- Preventive Care: The essence of Classical Chinese Medicine and qigong is preventing illness rather than treating disease. This proactive approach involves regular practice, mindful eating, and maintaining balance in all aspects of life. As we often teach at Shelton Qigong, consistency and mindful movement creates resilience and supports long-term health.
- Body as Temple: In qigong philosophy, we view the body as a sacred vessel that houses our life force (qi or chi). This perspective encourages us to treat our physical form with respect and care, nourishing it appropriately and avoiding harmful substances or activities that might diminish our vital energy.
- Holistic Wellness: True health encompasses more than physical wellbeing. Our practice integrates body, mind, and spirit, recognizing that emotional and spiritual health are equally important. This integrative approach helps practitioners achieve expanded consciousness and increases vitality.
- Community and Consciousness: While personal responsibility is crucial, we at Shelton Qigong understand the value of community support and accountability. Our classes and workshops create spaces where you can learn and grow together with other like-minded individuals.
- Sustainable Practices: The path to well-being needs to be sustainable and life-affirming. Otherwise lasting change will be difficult to maintain. Our qigong practices are gentle yet powerful, suitable for all ages and abilities, and can be maintained throughout one’s lifetime. This approach ensures long-term health benefits without causing harm to ourselves or others.
The message of health being our true wealth reminds us that no material success can compensate for poor health.
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to neglect your own wellbeing in pursuit of external achievements.
However, the ancient wisdom embedded in qigong practices teaches us that by investing time and attention in your health, you create the foundation for all other accomplishments to come forth.
At Morning Crane Healing Arts Center, we continue to share these time-tested teachings, helping you understand that health is indeed your most valuable asset.
Through regular practice, mindful living, and conscious choices, each you CAN take charge of your wellbeing and cultivate lasting health and vitality.
Remember, the journey to optimal health is deeply personal and an ongoing journey.
By incorporating the principles of Shelton Qigong into your daily life, you become a better steward of your own wellbeing, and literally become the change you wish to see in the world.
Be blessed,
-Chris and Parisa
